According to the Irish Independent, Celtic will not be landing Fergal Harkin from Manchester City this summer.

Harkin currently serves as City’s head of football partnerships, and has long been expected to become Celtic’s director of football.

The Daily Record reported last week that Harkin had rejected a key role at Lommel in Belgium because he looked set for Celtic.

Sky Sports even suggested over the weekend that Harkin was the man who recommended Ange Postecoglou to Celtic as their new managerial target.

In Harkin’s role at City, he has worked closely with Yokohama F. Marinos, the club Postecoglou manages, so a double deal for them to join forces seemed to make sense.

Now though, it’s stated that Harkin is loyal to City and won’t be heading to Celtic, despite having conversations over a move to Parkhead.

This report states that the director of football job was never actually offered to Harkin and he had no say on the Postecoglou move.

This all seems very strange, as Harkin looked to be nailed-on for the job and the Postecoglou just seemed to line up perfectly with Harkin coming in.

Now, Celtic must go back to the drawing board, with Eddie Howe and now Harkin not heading to Glasgow when it looked like they both would.
