Jermaine Jenas has said on BBC Radio 5 Live that it shocked him the way Mauricio Pochettino spoke about Tottenham Hotspur to him.
Jenas has said that during an interview with Pochettino last year, the Argentine was speaking fondly of Spurs and was already looking to the day when he would return to the North London club.
The Argentine was sacked as the Tottenham head coach in November 2019 and was appointed as the Paris Saint-Germain manager in January 2021.
Pochettino has been linked with a return to Spurs, with The Sun reporting that the Premier League club plan to hold talks with PSG on Monday.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I did an interview with him back in March, I think, or February it was, around that time, and he spoke non-stop about returning to Tottenham at one point.
“It actually shocked me. He had only just left. He kept saying, ‘I know one day I will be back at that football club. One day I will be back’.”
Jenas’s comments show just how much Pochettino loves Tottenham.
The former Southampton manager clearly wants to go back to Spurs at some stage.
Jenas’s revelation gives credence to reports that Pochettino has held talks with Tottenham over a potential return.
The problem is that PSG may not be willing to let the 49-year-old go.
PSG will know that it was not Pochettino’s fault that the team could not win the Ligue 1 title or the Champions League this season.
Perhaps Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will have to pay PSG a compensation fee to secure the services of Pochettino.
