Guillem Balague has told BBC Sport that Paris Saint-Germain do not plan to let go of Mauricio Pochettino amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

BBC Sport journalist Balague has said that Tottenham have asked about Pochettino, adding that the Argentine’s relationship with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has improved.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has added that PSG do not have any intention of sacking Pochettino despite the team not winning the Ligue 1 title or the Champions League this season.

Balague told BBC Sport: “Returning to England is a goal, but he’s started planning next season with PSG decision makers.

“PSG have got no intention to let him go and are surprised by the amount of coverage about something they are not contemplating.”

The journalist added: “His [Pochettino’s] relationship with Levy has improved and, as they are looking for a profile like him, why not consider him? So they asked.”

Balague continued: “They don’t blame him for not winning the league and have seen big improvements in the squad. They do not expect anything but him starting next season on their bench.”

Mauricio Pochettino back to Tottenham Hotspur?

Pochettino was appointed the PSG manager only in January 2021.

It is hard to see the French club sack Pochettino after just a few months.

However, much will depend on what Pochettino wants to do.

If the Argentine’s relationship with Levy has improved since his sacking back in November 2019, then he might as well give serious thought of coming back to Tottenham.

The former Southampton boss is absolutely loved by the Tottenham fans.

Pochettino will also know that this time Levy will grant his wishes and will invest (a lot?) in the squad.

However, if PSG do not want to let Pochettino go, then they could well ask for a compensation fee, which would make the appointment (more) expensive for Levy.
