Tottenham Hotspur may be in the market for another centre back this summer, and they’re being linked with an interesting move today.

Spurs did sign Joe Rodon in October, but Davinson Sanchez looks shaky, Toby Alderweireld is into his 30’s and Eric Dier looks short of confidence.

Investing in new centre backs for the future seems to be a sensible idea, and The Athletic report that Spurs are now interested in signing Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa.

Liverpool are also thought to be keen, but Tottenham may have the upper hand in the race to sign Konsa thanks to comments he made a while ago.

Speaking to Four Four Two in May 2018 (p80), Konsa admitted that he is a boyhood Tottenham fan and would ‘love’ to sign for them.

“Of course,” said Konsa when asked if Tottenham is his dream move. “Tottenham are now a heavyweight team so I’d love to go there – why not?” he added.

Konsa was with Charlton Athletic at the time, and has since turned out for Brentford and now Aston Villa, with a move to Spurs now potentially the next step forward.

The 23-year-old as shown outstanding quality in the Premier League this season, arguably overshadowing teammate Tyrone Mings in the heart of the Villa defence.

Konsa isn’t the tallest centre back, but he is quick and reads the game well, whilst having huge potential – and beating Liverpool to the signing of a boyhood Spurs fan would be a massive coup for Tottenham.
