Manager says Burnley are watching his 13-goal striker, while teenager has signed for Clarets

Portadown pair Lee Bonis and George Tipton have had trials at Burnley as the Premier League outfit run the rule over the NIFL pair, as reported by the Belfast Telegraph.

The Clarets may have new US investors pulling the strings from above but does that mean Burnley will shatter a transfer record that has stood since August 2018?

Perhaps not.

While the Turf Moor side are willing to invest during the upcoming transfer window, according to LancsLive, Sean Dyche looks likely to spend the summer sifting through the bargain bucket once more in search of hidden gems.

The Sun (9 May, page 59) reported Burnley were keeping tabs on two highly rated youngsters who had caught the eye in County Armagh across the Irish Sea

Striker Bonis has scored 13 times this season and 15 last term, while George ‘son of the manager’ Tipton has become a regular feature in the heart of Portadown’s midfield at the age of just 18.

And, according to Tipton Sr, Burnley have taken the opportunity to have a closer look at two of Northern Ireland’s most exciting talents.

“I was happy they got the opportunity to go there,” says Portadown manager Mathew Tipton.

As it stands, however, Burnley appear to have put their interest on the back burner.

“It won’t go any further currently,” Tipton adds. “But if they keep performing for us, all the better.”

Bonis and Tipton will be understandably disappointed to miss out on what could have been a life-changing move to the Premier League but can take plenty of heart in knowing their talents are being noticed in England.

Burnley may not sign the duo but, if they keep developing, someone will eventually.
