Sunderland are preparing an £800,000 bid for Aberdeen ace Ross McCrorie as the Black Cats prepare for the League One play-off battle, as reported by the Daily Record.
The 23-year-old Scot may not become “one of the best centre-halves in history” – his former Rangers coach Pedro Caixinha had a tendency to get ahead of himself – but there’s no reason McCrorie can’t enjoy an impressive career.
The-one time Ibrox starlet has impressed since joining Aberdeen, catching the eye whether playing as a defensive-midfielder, centre-half or even right-back.
And it’s that versatility, not to mention his technical ability and tigerish tenacity, that has caught the eye of a Sunderland side which, if all goes to plan, will be playing Championship football again in 2021/22.
The Record reports the Black Cats will make an initial bid of £800,000, offering Aberdeen the chance to double their money on the former Scotland U21 international.
McCrorie, who played for Sunderland’s League One rivals Portsmouth during a brief loan spell on the South Coast in 2019/20, would become the latest player to arrive on Wearside from north of the border.

Jordan Jones and Ross Stewart both joined Sunderland in January, from Rangers and Ross County respectively.
“Certain games suit Ross,” Gers boss Steven Gerrard once said of McCrorie, highlighting the youngster’s tendency to step up in the big games.
“He was really good against Aberdeen and really good against Celtic, when we were looking for that enforcer. I thought in the second half he was immense, so we are really pleased.”
