Liverpool found two centre backs on deadline day in February, but missed out on potentially signing another.

Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak both arrived in the final hours of the window, and whilst Davies has yet to play, Kabak is featuring prominently.

It now seems that the Reds are pressing ahead with plans to sign Ibrahima Konate, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that a deal for the RB Leipzig ace is close.

Liverpool did look at a different Bundesliga defender though, with Sport1 claiming that the Reds made a move for Bayer Leverkusen ace Edmond Tapsoba on deadline day.

Leverkusen fended Liverpool off, and it sounds like they’re still doing it. Sport1 suggest that more English approaches have come for Tapsoba, and Leverkusen are continuing to say no.

They are though looking at signing Mainz ace Jeremiah St Juste, hinting that they may not be 100% sure about Tapsoba’s future just yet.

Tapsoba, 22, admitted to The Athletic that he admires Virgil van Dijk and has starred for Leverkusen since arriving from Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2020, so it’s no shock that he is attracting interest.

The Burkina Faso international is tall a 6ft 4in, he’s quick across the ground and can play out from the back, meaning it makes sense for Liverpool to keep him on their radar.

Konate seems to the priority now, but another approach for Tapsoba adds up, only Leverkusen are standing firm whereas Liverpool can pay Konate’s release clause and steal him away.
