Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has insisted that it is vital his players are “hungry and consistent” after criticism over their consistency levels in recent seasons – particularly in cup games – but rubbished suggestions there have been issues with fitness at Ibrox.
Rangers face St. Johnstone later tonight in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with the Gers yet to reach the final in Gerrard’s three years at the club.
Gerrard is hopeful that with four weeks left of the season, the Gers can add a few more games to their schedule before the curtain comes down on the campaign, and a win this afternoon would see them take a big step towards their first domestic double since 2009.
“I don’t think anyone could ever question our fitness. We have always been a really fit team,” Gerrard said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“I understand people questioning our consistency at times. Certainly in cup competitions we have been stung at important times.
“The semi-final in year one and Hearts away in year two. So it’s important we remain hungry and consistent.

“We have four weeks left of the season and hopefully that will be six more games.”
