St. Johnstone keeper Zander Clark has joked he was “devastated” not to score after his header in injury time of extra time was knocked home by Chris Kane to set up a famous penalty shootout win over Rangers at Ibrox.
Boyhood Rangers fan Clark was given a free header at a corner kick and saw his effort bundled home by Chris Kane just minutes after James Tavernier thought he’d sent Rangers through.
Clark was delighted with the shock win and was full of praise for his team-mates as they ended Rangers’ hopes of a first domestic double since 2009 while keeping their own alive.
“Typical strikers! I think Kaneo pokes it in on the line. I’m devastated not to score,” Clark joked to Premier Sports’ Emma Dodds.
“Listen, I think it was what we deserved and we pushed them the full way. We were excellent in everything we done and credit to the boys.”
Clark pulled off a number of impressive stops throughout the game before saving from Tavernier and Kemar Roofe to seal a 4-2 shootout win.
After lifting the League Cup earlier this season the McDiarmid Park side – who have Rangers winger Glenn Middleton on loan – will be desperate to do their first ever cup double.

If Clark continues to perform as he did against Rangers, the Saints are in with a fantastic chance of making it two cups from two this season.
