Martin Keown has said that he doesn’t feel that Arsenal in a position where they can afford to sell Alexandre Lacazette.

The Telegraph claim that Arsenal are ready to sell Lacazette for around £15 million in the summer transfer window.

However, the French international forward has been in excellent form of late.

Lacazette scored twice for Arsenal on Thursday, as they picked up a 4-0 victory over Slavia Prague in the Europa League.

And when asked whether Arsenal are in a position, where they can afford to sell the goalscorer, Keown said: “No, I don’t think you can. I think he’s really, really important.

“You want Lacazette in and around there. You have Balogun and Nketiah coming through and the best example he shows is his technique.”

If Arsenal don’t sell Lacazette this summer then they will surely have to offer him a new contract.

The 29-year-old has just over a year left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and Arsenal surely wouldn’t be prepared to simply keep him to lose him on a free.

Offering new deals to players around Lacazette’s age hasn’t always worked out for the Gunners though.

And they will have to assess their options carefully in the transfer window, despite the forward’s strong form of late.
