Yangel Herrera is valued at about £13 million by Manchester City with Premier League rivals Southampton and West Ham United keen on the midfielder, as reported by El Universal.

Similarities can certainly be drawn between Herrera and a certain Douglas Luiz.

Luiz, after all, failed to make a first-team appearance in the sky blue of City – due to work-permit problems, admittedly. But, following a spell on loan in La Liga, he’s more than making up for lost time in the Premier League at Aston Villa.

And Herrera, the Venezuela international who has picked up plenty of admirers during his two years in the red and white of Granada, could soon be treading a similar path.

The Sun (8 April, page 50) reports Southampton and West Ham are both willing to take a punt on the all-action 23-year-old.

Herrera has impressed the Man City scouts in Spain. But, despite Fernandinho’s impending departure, his future under Pep Guardiola remains uncertain.

And reports in South America suggest the Citizens may be willing to sell for what could be a bargain fee of £13 million.

“He’s a really athletic, dynamic player who has a habit of getting into the box at the right times. He’s a threat in the air too,” said La Liga expert and former Man United forward Terry Gibson this week.

In all competitions, Herrera has found the net eight times this season with those towering, back-post headers quickly becoming his trademark in a manner not too dissimilar to that of Tomas Soucek, the midfielder’s potential future teammate at West Ham.
