According to The Athletic, Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa didn’t have his head turned by interest from Tottenham Hotspur – despite supporting them.
The Athletic claimed in February that Spurs had joined Liverpool in the race to sign Konsa, having been impressed with his performances for Villa this season.
It looked like being a dream move for Konsa, as he actually grew up supporting Tottenham and admitted as much to Four Four Two back in May 2018.
That may have seemed worrying for Villa fans, as they won’t have wanted to lose Konsa having formed such a strong partnership with Tyrone Mings this term.
Konsa has eased those fears now though having signed a new deal with Villa until 2026, effectively killing off Tottenham’s hope of a deal any time soon.
It’s now suggested that Konsa didn’t let the rumours get into his head and didn’t let his focus slip despite his favourite club wanting to sign him, and he has shown his loyalty to Villa by signing that new deal.

The 23-year-old will now have real hope of pushing towards an England cap; in fact, it’s pretty outrageous that a defender who can’t get a kick for Spurs – Eric Dier – is in the squad ahead of Konsa right now.
Maybe Konsa will end up at Spurs one day, but it’s clear that he just wasn’t interested right now – and Villa will be both happy and relieved to hear it.
