Steve Nicol has told ESPNFC that Liverpool should make a bid for Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer of 2021.
The Liverpool legend believes that Koulibaly would be a brilliant signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side and would be a great partner for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ defence.
Nicol told ESPNFC: “I think this is an absolute no-brainer for Liverpool. You go and get Koulibaly because they don’t have anybody else anyway. Matip cannot play two games on the trot, so it’s an absolute no-brainer.”
Nicol added: “He is big and strong, he can play, he has still got pace.”
Liverpool speculation
Liverpool have actually been linked with Koulibaly, who plays with Reds forward Sadio Mane for the Senegal national football team.
Well-known and well-respected football journalist Ian McGarry has said on the Transfer Window Podcast that the defending Premier League champions have made “an informal offer”, as covered by HITC Sport.

Good signing for Liverpool?
Liverpool do have a number of central defenders. Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are the three senior ones, although all of them are injured at the moment.
Ozan Kabak joined the Reds on loan from Schalke in the January transfer window, while Ben Davies moved from Preston North End.
However, if the Reds can do a deal for Koulibaly, then they should do it. The 29-year-old is a very experienced central defender who is at the top of his game and would be able to make an immediate impact at Anfield.
