Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry has claimed that Liverpool have opened negotiations to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Reds have long been linked with a move for the Senegalese star, and it seems as though they’re now stepping up their pursuit.
Indeed, the journalist claims that Liverpool have made an approach for the centre-back.
“They have tried to blood in young players as well as looking at players to recruit. They have had a long-standing interest in the Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, which we have reported on the podcast in detail over the podcast in the past year. It is our understanding that an informal offer to begin with of €40m plus add ons has been made for the player who is certainly available, and Jurgen Klopp certainly looks at him as being a very suitable partner for Virgil van Dijk,” McGarry said.

This is certainly an interesting update.
Liverpool need to add more depth at centre-half, but it seems as though they may be adding a bit more than just a depth option.
Koulibaly is nothing short of a defensive superstar, and if Liverpool do form that partnership with Virgil van Dijk, it’s hard to see how any team would be able to penetrate them.
Fingers crossed this is a deal that can get over the line.
