Rangers clocked up yet another victory in European football on Thursday night

While the consequences for his team are of far greater significance, Steven Gerrard achieved a personal feat with Rangers’ latest European win.
The 5-2 defeat of Royal Antwerp at Ibrox on Thursday was his 24th victory in European football since taking over at Rangers in 2018.
That sees him surpass the 23 achieved by Walter Smith across his two spells as manager at the club.
Gerrard drew level with Smith, who reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2008, when his side beat the Belgians 4-3 in last week’s first leg.

If the former Liverpool man has designs on breaking the club’s record this season it will require his side to reach the final stages of this year’s competition.
He is currently five behind the legendary Scot Symon, who achieved 29 European victories during the 1930s and ’40s.
Speaking after his team’s latest victory, Gerrard told BT Sport: “Very satisfied and very happy.
“The performance was outstanding in a lot of areas tonight.
“We conceded a couple of goals which as a manager you’ve got to take on board and analyse once the game is done, but some of our play tonight was outstanding with the way we did it.

The first three were top high-level goals, especially Ryan Kent’s in terms of a team one. Over the course of the two games we’ve looked dangerous throughout and deserved to score nine goals, if not more.
“As someone who wants to be a perfectionist we still need to work on things.
“We told them that at our best we could cause them a lot of problems. We watched a lot of games on them and we knew if we came to the party, our front three, we could cause them many problems.”
