Speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolo Barella.

The Italian has made headlines this week after an incredible performance in the derby against AC Milan, and as you can imagine, this has led to speculation about his future at the club.

Barella has been linked with Tottenham for quite some time, but Romano claims that this deal isn’t one that will get over the line this summer as Inter are keen to keep hold of him.

“I always get questions about Tottenham when I talk about Barella, because there are a lot of rumours about Tottenham coming in for him in the summer and everything,” Romano said.

“I agree with you, we’re talking about a fantastic player and probably in this moment, the best Italian midfielder along with Marco Verratti, so we’re talking about an amazing talent.

“But what I’m told is that Inter are not going to hear any bid next summer for Barella, they want to keep the player, so at the moment there is nothing with Tottenham.

“He is staying and Inter are working to extend his contract, so soon they will make an official proposal to Barella to extend his contract and I think he’s staying at Inter next season, so it will be difficult for Tottenham to get Barella.”

Unfortunately, it seems as though the midfielder won’t be coming to Tottenham this summer.

Spurs may have to look elsewhere for reinforcements in that position, and luckily they have their eyes on an alternative in the shape of Marcel Sabitzer who has been strongly linked.

Of course, Barella could reject a new contract at Inter and could end up moving, but Romano seems to believe that a move to north London in the near future is unlikely.
