Declan Rice was in a positive frame of mind on Monday morning after West Ham’s win against Tottenham, but few are more enthusiastic about football right now than Ally McCoist.

The Ibrox legend saw his former side pull further away in the race for the Scottish Premiership titled on Sunday, with Rangers‘ 4-1 win against Dundee United and Celtic’s subsequent 1-0 defeat against Ross County stretching the gap to 18 points.

If both sides win their next two matches, Rangers can win the league at Celtic Park on March 21.

Speaking on talkSPORT after the Hammers beat Spurs 2-1, England international Rice posed McCoist a question.

The 22-year-old said: “Can I ask Ally something?

“How does it feel to celebrate 55 titles for Rangers at the end of this season?”

That went down well with McCoist, who replied: “On you go Dec. You’ll do for me boy!”

Goals from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard gave David Moyes’ side a vital victory, with the result lifting them into the Champions League places.

At Ibrox, the goals came from Ianis Hagi, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Alfredo Morelos as Steven Gerrard’s men took another step towards ending Celtic’s domestic dominance.

As quoted by Record Sport, Gerrard said after the game: “I can see the focus, I can see the determination. I thought when we were 4-0 up today we could have been better in terms of our standards to see the game out better.

“But that is me being fussy and the way I am and I will continue to try and keep the players on their toes.

“The big reminder today is that it is another positive result, another big step, but we have still got work to do.”
