Speaking on Sky Sports News (11/2/20 10:30AM), Paul Robinson has claimed that Dele Alli deserves a lot of credit for how he’s conducted himself this season.
It’s no secret that Alli has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham this term, and while David Ornstein claimed in January that he was looking for a permanent exit from the club, we’ve not heard him publicly kicking up a fuss.
Robinson believes that Alli should be commended for the fact he’s not been causing a stir in the media, and he deserves credit for looking sharp and fit whenever he has been called upon.
“You’ve got to give him a lot of credit Dele Alli, because you’ve not heard from him,” Robinson said.
“Yes there was all the talk of a potential move, of him leaving and his lack of gametime, there’s the European Championships coming up at the end of the season which I’m sure he’ll want to play in, but you have to give him credit.
“He’s been used sporadically, he’s been used in cup ties which are probably a lot less glamourous than games he’s used to playing in and when he has played, he’s taken his chances and he’s looked as match fit as he could and he’s looked sharp, and you’ve got to think that if Dele Alli is called upon between now and the end of the season he’ll be ready.”

This is an interesting take on Alli’s situation.
We don’t truly know what’s gone on behind the scenes with Alli at Tottenham, and perhaps that’s a testament to the midfielder’s professionalism.
So many times we’ve seen players come out to complain about not playing or being unhappy at a club, but Alli has just got on with his business in an understated way, performing whenever he’s been called upon.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’s going to become one of Mourinho’s first-choice players anytime soon, but Robinson believes he deserves credit for how he’s conducted himself, and we’re inclined to agree with that view.
