Rangers dropped points for only the fourth time this season on Sunday

With their 10-in-a-row hopes fading, Celtic fans have been looking for scraps of comfort.

Some found one on Sunday in the form of Allan McGregor, with footage doing the rounds of the veteran keeper looking distinctly unimpressed with his team-mates after they threw away a one-goal lead in the dying seconds against Hamilton.

It was a McGregor own goal that cost Rangers two points at New Douglas Park, but the 39-year-old had been named Man of the Match after denying the hosts on several occasions.

The result meant Rangers’ lead in the title race now stands at 21 points, albeit with Neil Lennon’s men having two games in hand.

Shortly after full-time in Hamilton, a Celtic supporter shared a clip which appeared to show McGregor gesticulating and shouting at his team-mates, accompanied by laughing emojis.

The tweet went viral, but Celtic supporters have responded by pointing out that they would gladly have a goalkeeper who was getting that worked up about their team’s travails.

Lennon has been unable to settle on a regular keeper this season, with £5m summer signing Vasilis Barkas having failed to convince.

Conor Hazard was given the gloves for a spell, including December’s Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts at Hampden, but it’s been Scott Bain between the sticks in recent weeks.

These Celtic supporters have taken issue with the idea that McGregor’s response is something to be mocked.

Celtic ended the weekend two points closer to Rangers than they began it, but the Ibrox side still have a significant lead and remain unbeaten with only 10 games to play.

Steven Gerrard’s side are next in action on Saturday when they host Kilmarnock, while Celtic face St Mirren in Paisley on Wednesday night.
