According to The Athletic, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that Takumi Minamino has a future at Anfield despite his move to Southampton on loan.

Southampton signed Minamino on loan from Premier League rivals Liverpool on transfer deadline day.

The Japan international, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, will stay at St. Mary’s Stadium for the rest of the season.

The Athletic has claimed that Southampton wanted the option to buy Minamino in the summer of 2021, but Liverpool boss Klopp rejected it as he ‘still sees a future for him at Anfield.’.

Good decision from Liverpool?

The Athletic has claimed that Liverpool see Southampton as ‘a good fit’ for the 26-year-old due to the style of football that they play under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Japan international has failed to make a huge impact at Anfield, but it must be noted that he joined Liverpool only in January 2020.

Minamino made two starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Reds this season, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

It is not always easy for players to make an instant impact in the Premier League, and playing regularly at Southampton during the second half of the season could see him return to Liverpool next summer a better footballer.
