Liverpool got 17 seasons out of Gerrard but it could have been even more

Steven Gerrard made 710 appearances during his time at Anfield, but he had the opportunity to add to that impressive figure.
The Rangers boss became a Liverpool legend during his playing days, winning the Champions League and two FA Cups with his boyhood heroes.
Regarded as one of the finest players to have worn the shirt, the former midfielder is viewed by many as a candidate to take over from Jurgen Klopp when the German eventually leaves.
The 40-year-old is now riding high at Ibrox, with his side currently 23 points above Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, he admitted there is one decision that he regrets.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Gerrard discussed his decision to turn down a one-year contract extension in favour of a move to MLS side LA Galaxy.
He said: “Looking back now, I wish I would have signed the final one-year contract I was offered by Liverpool because I would have had the opportunity to maybe have a small period of playing under Jurgen Klopp.
“There is a wee tad of regret – and I say wee because I’m up in Scotland.

“I had a fantastic journey at Liverpool and the highs that club took me to are memories I will never forget and will always cherish and I think about them every single day.
“At the same time, I had some moments that I have tried to move on from in terms of brutal lows. But I don’t want to always talk about the highs and lows.
“I want to look back on that journey with fondness because I lived my dream and I played for my local team and I achieved things I never dreamt of.”
