Steven Gerrard has singled out Ianis Hagi for praise as the youngster becomes an integral part of his squad.

Hagi endured a frustrating start to the campaign after turning his loan move from Genk into a permanent deal.

Having made a positive impression last season with a series of impressive performances for Rangers, including his memorable Europa League double against Braga, the Romanian took time to find his feet this time around.

In recent weeks, however, he has begun to play a bigger role as Gerrard’s men have increased their lead at the top of the Premiership to 23 points.

The Ibrox boss believes there is more to come from the 22-year-old, who scored the winner when Rangers last played Wednesday night’s opponents Hibs, and has paid tribute to his attitude.

Speaking at Tuesday’s Rangers press conference, Gerrard said: “We are really happy with Hagi.

“He is a student of the game and someone you have to drag off the training pitch. He is always in the gym or in with the analysis.

“He is one we are pushing as we are excited there is still more to come.”

Speaking ahead of the trip to Easter Road, Gerrard was full of praise for his players.

He said: “I think our performances at Easter Road have been very good and we have had a couple draws when we had plenty of chances to win.

“I think in our last match with the chances we had we should have won the game. I can’t fault the performances.

“We have to pay credit to the players on our set pieces for the hunger to go and attack, the players have bought into it as preparing and practising set-pieces can be a bit of a slog so credit to Tom (Culshaw) and the team.

“I’ve been very pleased and want this to continue.”
