Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk Podcast, reliable German journalist Raphael Honigstein has talked up Tottenham’s chances of landing Nicolas Gonzalez this month.

Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for the Argentine in recent weeks, with David Ornstein touting a move to north London for the man who has scored 5 Bundesliga goals this term.

Honigstein clearly seems to think that Gonzalez is a talented player, and he also believes that a move to Tottenham is a possibility.

“He’s a wonderful player, Stuttgart under Sven Mislinstat, who was of course the technical director at Arsenal for a while, have collected some really young, exciting players, Gonzalez is one of them,” Honigstein said after being asked about Tottenham’s interest

“There will be interest for him, Stuttgart having just come up to the Bundesliga will not be in a position to say under no circumstances will these players leave, but you’d have to make it worth their while.

“So, it’s a possibility, but I also don’t know if Mislintat being a former Gunner will charge them extra for that type of deal just to throw a spanner in the works, but that’s just my personal speculation.”

Before you start panicking, Honigstein’s comments about Mislintat charging extra to Tottenham were clearly tongue-in-cheek.

The journalist clearly feels as though there’s a chance that Spurs land their man.

Whether or not that’s this month or in the summer remains to be seen, after all, the original report about their interest touted him as a summer target rather than a January one.

Sven Mislintat will, of course, try to get the best possible deal for his player, so this won’t be one that comes cheaply, but it’s definitely interesting to hear that he could be on his way.
