A report in The Athletic has outlined what Tottenham’s current plans for Dele Alli are in the January transfer window, and the two things that could change their view.
Unsurprisingly, the presiding view is that Alli could leave the club in the winter, which backs up what Fabrizio Romano was saying earlier this week, but The Athletic are also reporting that Alli leaving Spurs isn’t an inevitability.
Indeed, the attacking midfielder may actually end up staying at Spurs for the remainder of the season.
The Athletic state that Alli may stay at the club past January if injuries occur or if he impresses Jose Mourinho in the coming weeks.
It really seems as though the next few weeks are make or break for Alli’s Tottenham career, and the opportunities he gets in the coming weeks are chances he will have to take.
Luckily for Alli, there are a couple of opportunities coming up on the calendar where he may get the chance to strut his stuff, with FA Cup and Carabao Cup fixtures coming up, games in which Alli may be expected to get rare starts.

Of course, impressing in these games is easier said than done, Alli hasn’t been in form for some time now, but perhaps this challenge being put to him can get him back playing at something close to his best.
We can only hope that his route to staying at Spurs is through re-discovering his form rather than injuries within the squad, as we never want to see any footballer sidelined for a sustained period of time.
