Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has raved about Curtis Jones on the club’s official website.

Klopp has said that Jones has been outstanding during the recent festive period for Liverpool.

The 19-year-old midfielder’s mistake against West Bromwich Albion last month cost the defending Premier League champions two points, but Klopp rates the teenager highly and has suggested that players will make mistakes.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Jones: “It’s very important, so this situation, that’s the world and the football world: you make a lot of good stuff and in one thing you hit an opponent when you want to play a pass or you pass a little bit too late and everybody is talking about it. So, 100 per cent he learns from things like this, definitely.

“It’s a very intense period for him as well and how he did so far is absolutely outstanding. I don’t know what it would have been [like] with all the injuries if he wouldn’t have been there. So I’m really happy about everything.

“And that football players make mistakes or make wrong decisions, I knew before. That can happen, especially when you get tired – that was for sure the case in the [West Brom] game. But again [against Newcastle], a top game, really good player, all good.”

Rising star for Liverpool

Jones has got opportunities this season largely due to injury problems, and the youngster has taken them well.

The midfielder is a rising star who has been praised by pundits such as Paul Merson, and it is clear that the England Under-21 international has a bright future ahead.

Of course, with Thiago now back from injury, it is not going to be easy for Jones to play regularly for the Reds, but his importance to the team cannot be undermined.

According to WhoScored, Jones has made seven starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League and has scored one goal and provided one assist in four Champions League games for Liverpool so far this season.
