Tottenham have extraordinarily been linked with a move for Sergio Ramos over the past 24 hours, as Jose Mourinho is reportedly keeping tabs on what he’s doing as his contract runs down.
The Spaniard will be available for free in the summer if Real Madrid aren’t able to secure his future in the Spanish capital, and while Ramos wants to stay, Fabrizio Romano still believes that anything can happen with the World Cup winner.
“We have to say that Sergio Ramos loves Real Madrid and when you think about Sergio Ramos you can’t see Sergio Ramos to another club that is not Real Madrid, and that’s why he’s been so respectful, I have to say,” Romano said on the Que Golazo Podcast.
“Because, Real Madrid have been in a complicated economic situation, they can’t sign any players, they have asked players with expiring contracts, like Sergio Ramos and like Luka Modric, let’s wait a bit, we have to understand the situation and then we will make a bid for your contract.”
Romano went on to explain that we need to wait and see what Madrid do with this information.

“So, we need to wait. That’s what Real Madrid say to Sergio Ramos, and when you have these kind of legends of European football, not just Real Madrid, they can also say, I don’t want to wait I’m going to negotiate with another club and take a bigger contract with another club in the Premier League or with PSG and much more.
“Sergio Ramos has been so respectful, he has waited, and he wants to be the captain of the new Bernabeu with Real Madrid, but he needs to have a contract bid, and at the moment, Real Madrid are still waiting. He wants to receive a two year contract, he wants the same money and not to change anything on his contract, so the same contract for the next two years.
“It’s up to Real Madrid, and that’s why everything can happen with Sergio Ramos, it’s up to Florentino Perez.”

This isn’t the best news for any Tottenham fans hoping to see Sergio Ramos turn up in north London next summer.
Ramos wants to stay in Madrid, and while Los Blancos are having financial difficulties, surely it’s not to the point that they’ll let a bona fide legend and current club captain leave the club for free.
However, as Romano says, anything can happen, and while there are bound to be plenty of interested parties, Spurs may have the edge due to the fact that Ramos already has a pre-established relationship with Mourinho, even if they have something of a mixed history.
As Romano says, we’ll have to wait and see, but this update is certainly intriguing to hear, especially after Ramos was linked with Tottenham on Monday.
