According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign a defender in the mould of Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.
The player he is currently keeping tabs on is Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, in the hope of pulling off a quite remarkable move.
Ramos, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season, and could end up leaving Real on a free transfer unless a new deal can be agreed.
The veteran has been a star at the Bernabeu since joining from Sevilla in 2005, racking up 665 appearances, 100 goals and 40 assists.
Add in 178 caps for Spain, and Ramos has been a mainstay for club and country, whilst serving as a captain and leader for both.
Ramos has won five league tiles and four Champions Leagues during his time with Real, as well as a whole host of other trophies in a glittering career – including the 2010 World Cup.

Ramos has the kind of mentality that Mourinho wants at Tottenham, but the rumours of a reunion are something of a surprise given their past at Real.
Goal noted in 2012 that there was a rift between the pair, though Mourinho did call Ramos ‘fantastic’ in 2014, so who knows whether the veteran will fancy joining forces again.
Still, it seems more likely that Ramos will leverage Real Madrid into giving him a new deal to see out his career in the Spanish capital, with a move to Spurs surely a pipedream.
