Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s superb 5-1 win over Stoke City at Wembley today, and explained how his players had more belief today, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

Tottenham have seemingly got their season back on track, after recording back-to-back wins over APOEL Nicosia and Stoke in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men leapfrogged bitter rivals Arsenal into fifth spot with their win today, although they have played a game more than Arsene Wenger’s men.

Spurs have at least began to build momentum again, just as they head into the hectic Christmas period, and today’s win would have done wonders for the players’ confidence.

And Pochettino told reporters how scoring first against Mark Hughes’ men was vital for his side today, sharing how it gave his players the belief to express themselves, as quoted by Football.London:

“The first goal is always important. You can believe more. We’ve been starting behind and always it was so difficult. We saw Chelsea today and their game was difficult because they conceded an early goal.”

Next up for Tottenham is a home game against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Wednesday night, and nothing less than a win will do, if they are to keep pace with those above them in the table.
