Tottenham Hotspur will kick off their 2016-17 Europa League campaign this week. The North London outfit will take on Belgian side KAA Gent away from home at the KAA Gent Stadium in the first leg of the round of 32 tie on Thursday evening.
Spurs will feature in the Europa League this season after getting knocked out of the Champions League. The North London outfit could only finish third in Group E behind winners AS Monaco and runners-up Bayer Leverkusen.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has criticised Tottenham for their mentality in the Champions League.

The former England international striker has suggested that manager Mauricio Pochettino should have fielded his strongest available lineup against Monaco at Stade Louis II on November 22 despite the fact that they were playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League just four days later.
“More mind-boggling for me this season was Spurs playing a weakened team at Monaco last November in a must-win Champions League group game because they were facing Chelsea the following Saturday,” Shearer wrote in The Irish Sun. “A game which they lost in any case.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 50 points from 25 matches.
Spurs are 10 points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea and level on points with third-placed Arsenal.
