Leeds United are going strong in the Championship this season.

Former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Ian Rush has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds United will end up in the Championship playoffs this season.

Leeds are fifth in the Championship table at the moment with 54 points from 30 matches.

The Whites have not featured in the Premier League since 2004 and had become also-rans in the Championship in recent seasons.

Things have changed this campaign, and former Leeds striker Rush has backed Garry Monk’s side to claim a playoff spot.

The former Wales international striker, though, does not expect the Whites to claim an automatic promotion spot.

“I thought the best they could make was the play-offs but now they are going really well and I’m certain they are going to make the play-offs now,” Rush told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Leeds.

“They might find it difficult to go up automatically but the supporters will take that and they have been very well supported. If they do make it then I’ll be rooting for them.”

Leeds will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Cardiff City at Elland Road in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire outfit should be able to pick up all three points from the encounter and maintain their chances of a top-six finish.

Monk’s side are going strong in the league and are playing quite well at the moment. The Elland Road faithful must be enjoying themselves these days.

With a little bit of luck, perhaps Leeds could even make a push for the top two.
