Ibrox outfit Glasgow Rangers are looking for a new manager; could Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes be the one?

Rangers are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Mark Warburton. On Friday evening, the Gers announced on their official website that they have parted company with Mark Warburton.

It was announced that Warburton, who was appointed in the role in the summer of 2015, has resigned. It now remains to be seen who Rangers appoint as his successor.

Rangers should make audacious move for 45-year-old Premier League manager

According to Gordon Smith, Alex McLeish should be the successor to Warburton at Ibrox. The former Rangers star believes that McLeish would be a good candidate for the job.

“They will want to try and get someone who has a previous track record with Rangers either as a player or as a manager,” Smith told BBC Radio Scotland. “Alex McLeish definitely comes strongly into contention.”

Some would suggest Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as Warburton’s successor. McInnes has done a wonderful job at Aberdeen and is one of the best managers in the Scottish Premiership.

Form Rangers star Smith, though, does not think that the 45-year-old would be willing to leave Aberdeen and move to Ibrox.

“I don’t think Derek McInnes would be ready to move at this stage of his career,” said Smith. “He’s taking things forward with Aberdeen and doing well there.”

Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 43 points from 24 matches, level on points with second-placed Aberdeen, who have played a game more, and 27 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
