Rangers ace Kenny Miller has reportedly been told that talks over a new deal at Ibrox are on hold.
Pundit Davie Provan has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks there is tension at Rangers between the Ibrox board and manager Mark Warburton over Kenny Miller’s future.
The Gers have endured a difficult week, as they were hammered 4-1 at Hearts last Wednesday before a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Ross County, two results which piled the pressure on manager Mark Warburton.
Warburton’s future has been brought into question after such underwhelming results and performances, whilst their current situation – third place and sitting 27 points behind league leaders Celtic – is not what fans had in mind.
General view outside Ibrox
It seems unlikely that Rangers would move on from Warburton before the end of the season, but a decision could be made in the summer – and it appears that there could be some correlation between Warburton’s future and the situation regarding Kenny Miller.
Broken promises and bizarre comments: Chris Sutton tears into Rangers and Warburton
Striker Miller, 37, is currently in his third spell at Ibrox, and despite his advancing years, he has been one of Rangers’ most important players this season.

Miller has hit eight goals in 30 appearances for Rangers this season, but his contract expires at the end of the season, and the Daily Record reported earlier this week that the Gers are blocking talks with the attacker despite Warburton’s requests to get a deal done.
That move is intriguing, and some fans could read between the lines and suggest that Rangers don’t want Warburton moulding the squad if he isn’t in charge next season.
Now, pundit Davie Provan has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks there is tension at Ibrox over Miller’s contract, and believes Warburton could be on his way out if Rangers lose to Morton this weekend.
“It is a tricky game and the pressure is certainly building on Warburton,” said Provan. “I think the Rangers board have got a decision to make. His recruitment in the summer was questionable to say the least. The Rangers board have to decide whether they are going to give him more money this summer or whether they are going to make the change. The silence from Dave King and the directors would be concerning for the manager.”
Angry Rangers react on Twitter to Kenny Miller exit rumours, question Warburton’s Ibrox future
“I’m not saying he can’t turn it round. If he finishes second I think most supporters would have settled for that with European involvement again at the start of the season. But the board and manager don’t seem to be on the same page. Look at Kenny Miller’s contract situation where it seems that there might be a tension behind the scenes that we are not all privy to. I think if Rangers were to lose at the weekend that the supporters would make their feelings pretty clear,” he added.
