Do Arsenal have more depth in their squad than Tottenham Hotspur do?

Tottenham Hotspur are going strong in the Premier League at the moment. The North London outfit are playing well and have established themselves as Chelsea’s main threat for the title.

Spurs are currently second in the Premier League table. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have picked up 50 points from 24 matches so far this season, nine fewer than London rivals and leaders Chelsea.

Paul Merson has positive words about one Arsenal player

Manchester City are a point behind Tottenham in third, while North London rivals Arsenal are three behind in fourth. As things stand, it is Spurs that Chelsea should be worried about.

Tottenham have some of the best players in the Premier League. Hugo Lloris is a world-class goalkeeper, while Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are arguably the best centre-back pair in the league. Harry Kane is a proven goalscorer, while Dele Alli is one of the best young midfielders in entire Europe.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has acknowledged the strength of the Tottenham starting lineup, but he seems to think that there is not enough depth in their squad. Merson has also compared Spurs’ squad to that of Arsenal.

Paul Merson - Walsall Manager

“They have a very good 11, a very good 11, and then after that…,” said Merson about Tottenham on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday (broadcast from 12pm, February 4).

“You look at Arsenal the other week and they made 10 changes in the FA Cup (against Southampton in January). They were bringing in international footballers. You don’t see that with Tottenham, with their squad. It’s not big enough.”
