Could Romelu Lukaku leave Everton in the summer transfer window?

Romelu Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and is in stunning form for Everton at the moment. The Belgium international is scoring goals left, right and centre for the Toffees.

The Belgium international is the top scorer in the Premier League at the moment with 16 goals, one more than Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. During the 2015-16 campaign, Lukaku scored 16 goals in 23 league matches for the Toffees.

Lukaku’s current contract with Everton runs until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, but one suspects that there will be big clubs in England and Europe trying to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Everton are a massive club, but they are unlikely to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. With no Champions League football during the 2017-18 campaign, it could be hard for the Toffees to convince Lukaku to remain at Goodison Park especially if top clubs come calling.

But could a Europa League finish do the trick? Could Everton retain the services of the 23-year-old former Chelsea striker if they manage to end up fifth or sixth in the Premier League this season?

Former Southampton attacking midfielder Matt Le Tissier seems to think so, as he said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday (broadcast from 12pm, February 4): “It might just, it might just mean that he can stay there, play his European football and then hopefully see what Everton bring in to try to strengthen to try and then make the team challenge for the top four.”
