Philippe Senderos has averaged almost as many red cards as league appearances in a Rangers shirt.

And here’s us thinking Rangers’ purchase of Philippe Senderos was one of the most disastrous, doomed from the beginning signings of the season.

The 31-year-old moved to Ibrox in the summer after being released by Grasshoppers in his homeland, inking a one-year deal with Mark Warburton’s side.

Senderos has only played twice in the Scottish Premiership since confusing football for netball and receiving the silliest of second yellows in September’s 5-1 thrashing by Celtic, but Rangers youngster David Bates says he is living the dream training alongside the former Arsenal man, the club’s official website reports.

“Philippe always takes me to do extra bits after training like fast feet, hitting me into my feet and defensive stuff,” said the 20-year-old, who completed his permanent move from Raith Rovers last month.

Perfect Mark Warburton replacement? Ex-Rangers favourite could be the answer

“This is like a dream to me because I am a Rangers fan and then obviously working with the likes of Philippe who has played Champions League and Premier League is incredible.

“I never thought that I would work with a guy like that.”

To Senderos’ credit, he does possess one of the most impressive CV’s in the Scottish game, having plied his trade with Arsenal, Everton, AC Milan and Valencia in conjunction with accumulating 57 caps for Switzerland and appearing at four international tournaments.

Therefore, his wealth of experience could prove invaluable to Bates, a promising defender hoping to make his way in the game – even if his impact on the pitch has been minimal thus far.
