Caceres has reportedly turned down the Italian giants, as well as both Crystal Palace and Sunderland, to sign for Southampton.

Martin Caceres will earn £850,000 in just three-and-a-half months after agreeing to join Southampton, according to the Sun.

That equates to around £60,000-a-week for the next 14 – despite the free agent having failed to make a competitive appearance since February 2016.

It is claimed the Saints’ offer even includes the possibility of a long-term contract once Caceres’s initial one expires.

Reports in Italy claimed the 29-year-old underwent a medical on the South Coast yesterday, with the Sun claiming the Saints are waiting for Caceres to be granted a work permit before confirming his arrival.
