With both teams looking for centre-halves in January, it was perhaps no surprise to see Southampton and Crystal Palace linked to a number of shared 'targets'.
Mamadou Sakho was one (Mirror), but with the Liverpool man ending the window a Palace player - albeit only on loan - could Southampton now turn to Martin Caceres, a player said to be bound for a medical at Selhurst Park.

Despite the transfer deadline having passed, Caceres can still move clubs having not been attached to anyone ahead of Tuesday's 11pm cut-off.
Southampton are without Virgil van Dijk for a number of weeks through injury, while Jose Fonte, the Dutchman's former centre-back partner, was sold to West Ham a fortnight ago.

And they could surely do worse than Caceres, who counts Juventus and Barcelona among his former clubs.
With Palace seemingly no longer in need of the Uruguayan, Saints' ability to offer greater first-team opportunities could perhaps swing a deal in their favour - if the Eagles are still pursuing the 29-year-old.
Would Caceres be a good signing for Southampton?
