Rangers’ recent results and performances have not been great. With Old Firm rivals Celtic running away with the Scottish Premiership title this season, the Gers should be aiming for the runners-up spot, but things are not going according to plan.
Mark Warburton’s side are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 43 points from 24 matches. Rangers are level on points with second-placed Aberdeen and 27 points behind leaders Celtic, having played a game more than than Derek McInnes’s side.

The Gers failed to win against Ross County at the weekend, playing out a 1-1 draw at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership. Last week, Rangers were hammered 4-1 by Heart of Midlothian away from home at the Tynecastle Stadium in the league.
Rangers manager Warburton is under pressure to get results. After all, not finishing second in the Scottish Premiership this season would be a massive disappointment for the Gers. However, every cloud has a silver lining, and former Rangers player Gordon Smith seems to have found one for the Ibrox outfit.

“A lot has been made about their failure to win a single league game against any team in the top five,” Smith wrote in The Sunday Post. “But it’s unfair for anyone to claim that makes Rangers the worst side in the top five.
“However, Aberdeen have held on to their key players and Hearts appear to be coming in to form. That means Rangers have a real fight on their hands to get second place.

“The only fact that may console them is that Celtic are the only team in the division who have achieved long-term consistency.”

Meanwhile, Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has suggested that if the team fail to clinch the runners-up spot, then manager Warburton could come under pressure.
“The manager is under severe pressure, but I wouldn’t put too much on him,” Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times. “If he doesn’t finish second then the spotlight really is on him.”
