Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers are struggling to keep up with Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Terry Butcher has outlined to Shoot a key difference between Rangers and Celtic winning their matches this season.

Celtic are running away with the Scottish Premiership title this campaign, while Old Firm rivals Rangers are fighting for the runners-up spot.

Brendan Rodgers makes a prediction about Celtic star; could it come true?

The Bhoys are at the top of the league table at the moment with 70 points from 24 matches, 27 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Rangers currently find themselves third in the standings with 43 points from 24 games.

“It’s not so much about defence, but how many goals you score,” Butcher told Shoot. “It is is okay racking up goals against teams in the bottom six like Rangers have, but they have got to improve their statistics around the clubs that are in and competing around the top five. It is goals that count.

“Rangers seem to win games by the odd goal, they don’t seem to win by two or three goals like Celtic do. I think they sent that signal out right from the first game, that they meant business and to make a positive start and score a load of goals.”

Rangers have dropped more points than they should have this season and have not scored as many goals as fans would have expected to.

Mark Warburton’s side have found the net only 32 times in 24 Scottish Premiership games so far this season, while Celtic have scored 65 goals in 24 matches.

Even Aberdeen and Heart of Midlothian have scored more league goals than Rangers have so far this campaign.
