Do Wolves need to make the No.10 position their top priority this summer?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to already be drawing up a list of potential summer targets.

Since the arrival of Paul Lambert and Molineux, Wolverhampton Wanderers have begun a slow and steady turnaround in form. Replacing long-term manager Kenny Jackett in the summer with Italian boss Walter Zenga, Wolves endured a sub-par start to the season, but since the arrival of former Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City manager Lambert, the club are seemingly back on track.

Perhaps the best change Lambert has been able to make since taking over the reigns, is turning Wolves back into a place where players want to come and play their football. During the January transfer window, Wolves signed Blackburn’s Ben Marshall on a permanent deal, as well as Benfica’s Helder Costa, who was on loan with the club, along with securing a loan move for Derby County attacker, Andreas Weimann.

These kind of promising acquisitions will hold Wolves in good stead for a promotion push next season, but where else do they need to improve? One position that looks like it could do with strengthening, is the No.10 role.

With excellent options out wide now, Wolves need to start creating more for their strikers to pounce on. A creative attacker of some kind, one preferably that can score goals and set up more for his team.

With Dave Edwards playing deeper, and the three new men all preferring wide positions, this seems to be the most obvious gap to fill.

One potential player who could fit this role for Wolves is Joe Mason, the former Cardiff forward. However, many Wolves fans believe Mason suits a striker role much better, having struggled as a number 10 in the past in a Wolves shirt.

So who else could Wolves look to in the summer? Henri Lansbury, the former Nottingham Forest captain, would have fit this role perfectly for Wolves, had he not been pinched by their rivals Aston Villa.

But who else is out there? Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo, who gained many plaudits at Swindon Town, is certainly a good fit in this role, and could be tempted by a move away from Loftus Road due to a lack of chances to play as a No.10.

Alternatively, Brentford’s Spanish attacking-midfielder Jota is a free agent in the summer, and Wolves could look to snatch up his services before anyone else does. The Spaniard can play on the left, the right and behind the striker, and might prove to be another useful utility player for Wolves.
