Newcastle United were expected to run away with the Championship title this season.
Speaking to the media during his pre-match press conference, Magpies boss Rafa Benitez was adamant that he will not quit his post as manager of the club, after rumours surfaced suggesting that he was not happy with Newcastle’s failure to sign the players who he deemed to be necessary additions in their fight for promotion, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Newcastle conceded a last minute goal against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night, and had to settle for a 2-2 draw – a result which left them one point adrift of league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Toon Army were not happy with the lack of new arrivals throughout the January transfer window, and Wednesday night’s result compounded their frustrations.
But Benitez was defiant in the face of adversity during his press conference, and repeated once again that he will be going nowhere any time soon, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“I have seen what you say in the media. But I said the other day, and it’s very simple. We have finished the transfer window, and we have a good squad, and I have confidence in them. I will not quit, I will not leave because I am happy or not happy. So simple, so clear.”
