Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has been on fire this season.
Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily at 11:54 am on January 25th, Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray offered high praise for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, and offered a potential reason why he may have found the going tough when he played in the Premier League for Crystal Palace.
The 26-year-old hitman made his £10 million switch to St James’ Park in the summer, and has gone on to become arguably Rafa Benitez’ most important player, scoring 20 goals in 22 Championship outings for his club.
And Murray explained to Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily how he knew Gayle would be a success for the Magpies:
Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle
“As soon as I saw that he had signed for them I knew he would score plenty of goals there, because he’s a top quality striker.”
He then responded to a question asking why the former Palace striker struggled to stamp his authority on the Premier League, during his time at Selhurst Park:
“I think maybe he’s not made to play one up front, and when he played in the Premier League that was the fashion. But Dwight is one of the best finishers I have played with, left foot, right foot and head. He can sniff a goal out from anywhere, and when he does get his chance again in the Premier League, I’m sure he will come good.”
Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle celebrates
Murray’s Brighton side currently hold a two point lead over the Magpies at the top of the Championship table, and both sides are heavily favoured to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
And if they do manage to achieve that feat, Gayle will have another chance to prove that he is indeed good enough to cut it at the highest level in the land.
