The West Ham United striker has scored just once since moving to the club last summer.

During an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Hammers striker Jonathan Calleri offered his view on Dimitri Payet’s exit from the club, and was adamant that he and his teammates will not miss the Frenchman.

Why did Antonio feel lucky after the defeat to City?

The Argentine striker notched his first goal for the club two weeks ago away at Middlesbrough, and will be looking to prove his worth to Slaven Bilic during the second half of the campaign, after many thought he would leave the club at some point throughout the January transfer window.

And the 23-year-old hitman highlighted the need for the entire West Ham squad to pull in the same direction following Payet’s exit, when speaking with Sky Sports, insisting that nobody is more important than the club:

“Yes it’s true that a great player in Dimitri Payet has left the club, but there is nobody more important than the whole squad and having a united dressing room and having a united team. So if we are all united and heading in the right direction we won’t miss Payet.”

Bilic’s men were brought right back down to earth on Wednesday night, following back-to-back Premier League wins, when Manchester City rolled in to town, and were given the freedom of the London Stadium pitch for the entirety of the 90 minutes.

They will be looking to bounce straight back on Saturday, as they head to the south coast to take on Southampton, and now is the time for the Hammers to start proving, on a regular basis, that they do not in fact miss Payet.
