The Celtic stopper was linked with a move away from the club in January.
When speaking to ESPN during an interview, Scotland manager Gordon Strachan expressed his relief that Craig Gordon stayed at Celtic during the January transfer window, and didn’t make the switch to Chelsea.
The 34-year-old would have been behind Thibaut Courtois in the goalkeeping pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and his game-time would have been limited to say the least.

The Scotland international has made 29 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions so far this term, conceding 26 goals in the process.
And Strachan spoke to ESPN, sharing his delight that the stopper remained in Glasgow, rather than switching allegiances to Antonio Conte’s men:
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan
“That would have been a worry, but who’s to say that he wouldn’t go there and Courtois would get injured and Craig would then be playing in the best league in the world. That’s the funny thing about football management — seven weeks away is miles away. You never know what’s going to happen. Somebody could get injured, an important player, maybe Craig — we hope not, touch wood — but that’s what can happen.”
Celtic’s Craig Gordon
The ageing goalkeeper has been a cornerstone of the Hoops’ success so far this term, so the club’s fans will surely share Strachan’s relief that he remained at Parkhead.
He will surely play a pivotal role in Scotland’s next two games – a friendly at home to Canada on March 22nd, before their World Cup qualifier against Slovenia four days later.
Should Celtic have pushed harder for former Barcelona man?
And if Gordon continues to impress for both club and country, Celtic may very well face another battle to keep hold of their number one goalkeeper.
