Don Goodman thinks Aston Villa have made a great move by signing Scott Hogan.
Pundit Don Goodman has told Sky Sports that he’s surprised Aston Villa managed to land Scott Hogan, suggesting he should have been targeted by a Premier League club.
Villa left it late on deadline day to seal a deal for Hogan, landing him from Brentford in a deal believed to be worth £9million rising to £12million, according to the Daily Mail.
Hogan became Villa’s eighth January signing, joining Sam Johnstone, James Bree, Jacob Bedeau, Nei Taylor, Birkir Bjarnason, Conor Hourihane and Henri Lansbury in arriving at Villa Park after a busy month for manager Steve Bruce.

Hogan appears to be the most exciting signing of the bunch though, as he has starred with Brentford this season having hit 14 goals in 27 appearances for the Bees this term.

A pacey attacker with superb movement off the shoulder of the last defender, Hogan has been a livewire in attack for Brentford, and having also risen from non-league, he’s earned some comparisons to ex-Halifax Town team-mate Jamie Vardy.

Hogan doesn’t come without question marks though; he missed 18 months through injury before returning towards the end of last season, and whilst he scored seven goals in seven games to end last season, some remain worried about his long-term injury status.
The striker does appear to be a major coup for Villa though having been linked with Premier League clubs, and pundit Don Goodman has praised the move whilst speaking to Sky Sports.
Goodman admitted that he was shocked that a Premier League club didn’t move for Hogan, claimed that Villa have landed a ‘fantastic’ bargain whilst also predicting that he will score regularly for Villa.

“I’m shocked a Premier League club hasn’t taken a gamble at that price,” said Goodman. “£9m rising to £12m; for me that’s a fantastic bargain for Aston Villa and I’m absolutely sure that if he stays fit he will bang the goals in,” he added.
