Aston Villa signed Scott Hogan from Brentford on Tuesday.

Aston Villa beat the transfer deadline to secure the signature of Brentford striker Scott Hogan on Tuesday night, with the London Evening Standard claiming the deal may end up costing £15million.

Villa had already brought in seven new signings during the January transfer window, as Sam Johnstone, James Bree, Jacob Bedeau, Neil Taylor, Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury and Birkir Bjarnason all arrived at Villa Park.

The 24-year-old ended last season with seven goals in seven games having missed 18 months through injury, and he’s emerged as one of the Championship’s most impressive strikers this season.

Hogan has hit 14 goals in 27 games this season, impressing with his superb pace and movement to run around and behind defenders, whilst his finishing ability has also caught the eye.

Now, Hogan could form a lethal partnership with Jonathan Kodjia in the Villa attack, and fans have taken to Twitter to offer their view on the signing.

Many believe that Hogan is a great signing for Villa, suggesting that he can impress alongside Kodjia, with some glad that Villa signed him instead of Jordan Rhodes, but are worried that he won’t make much difference after Villa’s torrid display against Brentford.

Some believe Rhodes may have been a better signing, and are concerned about his injury history, with some concern that he’ll struggle to match his previous goal feats at Villa, as many strikers before him have.
