McCormack joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Aston Villa this week.

Ross McCormack has admitted that he was desperate to seal his loan move to Nottingham Forest once the possibility arose late in the transfer window as he looks to regain some of the confidence he has lost at Aston Villa, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

Villa paid £12 million to bring McCormack to Villa Park from Fulham last summer, but the 30-year-old has scored just three goals in 22 games for the club since.

Increasingly a peripheral figure as Jonathan Kodjia shines as Villa’s leading frontman, McCormack has found himself pushed to the fringes at Villa Park.

His situation was not helped by the very public and bizarre falling-out he had with manager Steve Bruce over a failure to turn up to training, something the striker notoriously put down to a faulty gate at his home.

It was no surprise, then, to see McCormack seal his temporary exit from B6 in the latter days of the transfer window.

Steve Bruce had previously laughed off reports that McCormack could leave Villa on loan in January

After signing a deal with Forest until the end of the season, the Scot revealed that he had been desperate to make the move as soon as the idea was floated, and admitted that he has been short on confidence at Villa.

McCormack said, via the Birmingham Mail: “My confidence was a bit low and that will improve by playing and scoring goals. We need to pull together here to climb the league.

“I have come to a fantastic club to show that I am back and I am ready to go. I want to add to this group and get some good results.

“It came up at the last minute and I am desperate to play for Nottingham Forest. I want to get back among the goals.

“I’ve got to thank everyone that has brought me here. The boys are bubbly and this is what I need. I’ve a point to prove to myself.”

It remains to be seen whether the move to the City Ground will in fact prove to be the catalyst for a personal revival for McCormack.

What is for certain is that, despite his superb Championship goalscoring record, with his 31st birthday at the start of next season, the striker needs to prove he can still cut it.
