The 28-year-old has barely featured since swapping Stuttgart for Bayern but would surely be first-choice at Everton.

After a potentially devastating Autumn which had fans rapidly losing faith in Ronald Koeman, Everton have come through the other side of the New Year looking refreshed, reinvigorated and reinforced.

Morgan Schneiderlin’s arrival added steel to an intelligent and technical midfield while the sparky enthusiasm of former Charlton wonderkid Ademola Lookman provides depth in attack and an impact substitute on the bench.

Coupled with a run of four wins in five Premier League games, including that 4-0 beating of Manchester City, Everton are sitting pretty in seventh and right on track for a Europa League spot.

However, if they are to drop into another lull as the campaign progresses, you wouldn’t bet against their lack of a top class goalkeeper being at the root of the problems.

Spaniard Joel Robles has performed beyond expectations in recent weeks but, like previous incumbent Maarten Stekelenberg, a mistake is never far away to undermine an otherwise impressive display.

Consequently, rumours with Joe Hart remain rife despite Koeman claiming emphatically in the summer that he had “no interest” in the England number one, as reported by the BBC.

However, after Bayern Munich understudy Sven Ulreich confirmed to Bild that he would be more than interested in a summer switch, every club in Europe lacking a safe pair of hands would surely have been rubbing their mits together in anticipation.

Ulreich

The German has only started one game all season under Carlo Ancelotti but that is no indication of Ulreich’s talents. He is behind Manuel Neuer after all.

Yet, the 28-year-old proved at Stuttgart that he was, without doubt, one of the most impressive all-round goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. If Everton are to progress further, they need a man of Ulreich’s stature between the sticks.
