It could be the Spanish youngster in West Ham United’s first-team with the slightly older striker heading out on loan.

West Ham United’s decision to send teenage striker Toni Martinez out on loan rather than promote him to the senior side was a source of frustration for some Hammers fans last month.

When the young Spaniard scored on his debut for Oxford United against Newcastle United a few days later, that feeling only grew.

West Ham United's Ashley Fletcher has a shot at goal

Big things are expected of Fletcher, but given his start to life in England and his innate talent, even bigger things could come from Martinez, and one wonders if the two young West Ham forwards could swap places next season.

Oxford United's Antonio Martinez celebrates scoring their third goal

If Martinez continues in his current form, there is little doubt he will finally get his West Ham chance in the next campaign, but if Fletcher does not perform in the short term, it could be him that heads out on loan for the 2017/2018 season.

That is pure speculation for now, but anyone who has seen Martinez in action knows he is the real deal, and while Fletcher has the potential to become a very effective option for West Ham in years to come, he could be usurped by a Spaniard who has everything in his locker to become a Hammers great.
