The Tottenham Hotspur striker believes his teammates needed more protection from the officials last night.
Spurs were left frustrated by Sunderland last night, who held them to a 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light, and Harry Kane slammed the Black Cats’ overly physical approach to the contest, when speaking to reporters in the aftermath of the game, and quoted via the Telegraph.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men dominated the football, with 72 per cent of possession, but only managed to hit the target three times during the course of the 90 minutes.
And what made last night’s result even worse for Tottenham fans was that their club failed to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea, after the Blues dropped points themselves away at Liverpool.

And Kane highlighted how his side need to find a way to win games like the one last night, when they are not at their best, but suggested that they could have had more help from the officials, as quoted by the Telegraph:

“We need to be able to win games when we’re not at our best and you could say the other team were physical. Some decisions on that pitch were very surprising. Mousa getting kicked knee-high on the pitch. If you go up to anyone on the pitch and kick them knee-height on purpose, it doesn’t matter if it’s a ‘tactical foul’, let’s say, it’s a red card. Sonny’s got a big gash going down his shin where the guy’s kicked the ball and followed through onto his shin. Yes, it’s physical, but then I think we have to be protected as well.”

The Lilywhites now have another opportunity to gain ground on those around them in the table, with a home game against Middlesbrough on Saturday, while Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge.
